The Wire is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Florida Department of State, the Division of Corporations, or any government agency. Published by Sun Coast Digital Media LLC, a digital marketing agency that sells websites and marketing services elsewhere. Nothing on the Wire is for sale. Listings are compiled from Florida public records, are free, and cannot be bought: no payment changes whether or how a business appears. Remove a listing · Privacy · Terms

How this data is collected

The South Florida Business Wire is compiled from the Florida Division of Corporations (Sunbiz) daily corporate data files: fixed-width public records the state publishes every business day at sftp.floridados.gov under /Public/doc/cor/. Every listing on this site traces to one record in one of those files. Nothing is scraped, purchased, or inferred from a third party.

What we publish

For each filing: registered name, entity type, Florida document number, city, county and ZIP code, the date the state released the record, and the filing date the registrant put on the record. All of it is public record under Florida law.

We do not publish the street address. The state file carries a principal address on every filing, and for a large share of small businesses that address is their home. The Wire uses it to decide which city a filing belongs to and then drops it: it appears on no page, in no JSON file and in no CSV export.

Two dates, and why they differ

Reported is the day the record appeared in the state’s daily file. Filing date on record is the date the registrant supplied. Florida permits an effective date up to 90 days forward, so a minority of records carry dates ahead of, or well behind, the week they were released. The Wire groups issues by the release date because it is unambiguous, and shows the registrant’s own date on each listing.

Category is inferred, not official

Sunbiz records carry no industry code. Category is inferred from the registered name using keyword rules. Roughly 57% of names (street addresses, surnames, holding-company constructions) carry no industry signal at all, and those are left as Other rather than forced into a bucket. The headline “top category” statistic excludes Other for that reason.

Why every listing says “Not listed” for website

Sunbiz records contain no website field, so the Wire has no way to know whether a registrant has a website. A website appears on a listing only after the owner claims the listing and supplies one, which is why every new listing starts with none shown. This is a gap in the source data, not a finding about these businesses, and the Wire does not report it as one.

Corrections and removals

Accuracy is not guaranteed. If a record is wrong, or you want a listing removed, tell us and we check it against the public record. Removal requests are honoured. There is also a dedicated removal form that asks for nothing but a name and an email to confirm.

Machine-readable access

The current issue is available as JSON at /data/issue-0004.json and the issue index at /data/issues.json; earlier issues sit beside it (issue-0001.json, issue-0002.json, issue-0003.json). A CSV export and a Frictionless data package descriptor accompany it. There is an RSS feed, an llms.txt and a fuller llms-full.txt for language models. Reuse is welcome with attribution to the South Florida Business Wire.
